Music is a form of expression that comes from the depths of every child and taps into their thoughts and feelings, firing their imagination.  It plays a vital role in teaching children empathy and brings them together through listening, playing and communicating via harmony, rhythm, and making melodies both as individuals and as a collective group.  It is a powerful, unique form of communication that can change the way children feel, think and act.

At Dalmain, we are passionate about giving children the opportunity to take part in music- making. Children have weekly lessons in our music room with our specialist teacher where they have opportunities to sing, play, perform, record, compose and listen to music from a wide range of different cultures and eras.  The lessons cover the key areas of the National Curriculum for Music alongside linking their learning to that which is taking place in the classroom in other subjects such as English, Maths, History, PSHE.

Alongside weekly music lessons our children also have the opportunity to take lessons in an instrument individually or as part of a group.  Instruments on offer include violin, cello, clarinet, guitar, ukulele, recorder, saxophone, djembe and brass which are all taught by our highly skilled peripatetic tutors. The progress of all our children is celebrated during our Music Progress Concerts, performed after school to our parents and carers.
